State Sovereignty Presentation

Cache Valley citizens will have the opportunity to attend a special presentation on state sovereignty given by dynamic presenter and newly elected state legislator, Ken Ivory. Other invited legislative guests include Cache Valley Representatives Curt Webb, Jack Draxler, and David Butterfield.

Ken Ivory has been a popular speaker on his new booklet which examines the oath that state legislators swear to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution entitled “Where’s The Line? – An Investigation into the Rights, Powers and Duties of State Legislatures." Ivory represents District 47 in the West Jordan-Midvale area.

The event, organized by citizens of Cache Valley, will be held Tuesday, January 18th at 7pm at 843 S 100 W in Logan (just West of Crystal Inn), is open to the public and to the media, and is free of charge.

Our goal is to increase women's involvement in the political arena. The workshops will be presented from a "how to" premise so women will not only be informed but more importantly know that they can, and should, have more influence in the political arena. We will offer instruction on how to launch and build a successful career of involvement in politics; as a volunteer, a professional, part-time or full-time.

The program will not end with the summit. We will continue through the year with follow-up seminars and workshops where women will receive more detailed instructions, mentoring, and opportunities for networking and involvement.

Republican Primary Elections and Early Voting

The primary election is June 22nd. If you are not registered as a Republican you cannot vote in the Republican primary. You can change parties at the voting location if you are registered for a different party, but if you are unaffiliated you will not be able to vote.

Early voting runs from June 8-18

Challengers:

Legislative District 5 (the South West end of Logan and the South end of Cache Valley) will choose between incumbent Curt Webb and challenger Chuck Bateman for the Utah House of Representatives. Everyone in the valley will have the opportunity to vote for the county recorder's office. The race is against incumbent Michael Gleed vs challenger Stanley Palmer. (As far as we know they do not have websites).

Every Republican in the state will have the opportunity to vote for either Mike Lee or Tim Bridgewater for the US Senate seat.

Please research these candidates carefully. Examine what they say and their backgrounds and make an informed decision as you step into the voting booth. Happy voting!

This week we are studying The Proper Role of Government by Ezra Taft Benson. Results of the Republican Conventions 2010

Most of you have probably heard the results of the Republican Convention by now but we are sending them out just in case you did not.

First of all, Senator Bennett has officially been retired , having been eliminated in the second round of voting at the State Republian Convention. There are rumors that he may attempt an extensive write-in campaign but it is doubtful that it will be effective. We are glad to see that Senator Bennett will be replaced and we also encourage you to be respectful toward him as he exits office .

Next, we are left with two good candidates who will contend in a primary race for the Republican nomination: Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee . We encourage all of you to research the candidates in all races thoroughly . Look into their background and history, past and present positions on political issues and principles, life and work experience, strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, meet them in person and bring your research with you to ask questions . There will be opportunities to meet candidates in person between now and the Republican Primary election on June 22nd and will make sure to notify you of those. (You must be registered as a Republican to vote in the Republican primary, but this will not affect who you can vote for in November. In November you can vote for whoever you want regardless of what party you are registered with).

Other races that may interest you (there is no Constitution Party candidates in these races. Remember you must be registered as a Republican in order to vote in these primaries) :

Senate District 17: Peter Knudsen received the nomination avoiding a primary with Jeff McNiel with just over 60% of the vote.

Utah House of Represenatives District 4: David Butterfield received the nomination avoiding a primary with Teresa Thuerer with 77% of the vote.

Utah House of Representatives District 5: two will contend for the Republican nomination in the primary election Curt Webb and Chuck Bateman.

Utah House of Representatives District 3: Lee Perry recieved the nomination avoiding a primary with incumbent Ben Ferry with 60.3% of the vote.

There is also a primary race for the county recorder between Michael Gleed and challenger Stanley Palmer.

An Amendment to the State Platform was also passed. It now reads:

“America is a stronger and better nation because of the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of legal immigrants, and the Republican Party honors them. We believe that control of our borders is an urgent national security interest and our national sovereignty depends on those secure borders.

“We oppose illegal immigration and all forms of amnesty, or legal status, for illegal immigrants. We support suspending automatic U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal immigrant parents. We oppose granting government benefits to those illegally present in the U.S. We oppose any temporary or “guest” worker program that would offer an automatic path to citizenship. We believe that current laws against employing illegal immigrants should be vigorously enforced, particularly to stem the now too common crime of identity theft in obtaining employment.”

Cycles of History: Why We Need to Stay Involved for the Long Haul

This class is taught by Jacqueline Smith of Summit County, UT. She travels all around teaching people about the cycles in history of the rise and fall of governments and empires, and gives compelling reasons why we should plan to be involved politically for the long haul.

"The Cycles of History is a wonderful 2 hour look at our country's history, and how it relates to cycles we are already familiar with. We look at the Kontradiev cycle (or long cycle), the Toffler 3rd wave, the Tytler Cycle of democracy, and the saeculum or 4th Turning. The purpose of this presentation is to help individuals recognize their place in history, and what events are likely to unfold based on the cycles of the past. It is also designed to help individuals ponder their own personal mission in life, and that of their children and / or grandchildren. It is designed to cause deep reflection into what our country needs and expects from those of us who are alive at this time in history. In a sense it is a wake-up call to the wonderful and possibly scary road ahead of us, and what we must do as parents to prepare ourselves and our children for the times ahead."

Jacqueline Smith is mother to 5 beautiful children. She currently homeschools her youngest four children. She is part owner of a plumbing company, CRS Mechanical Contractors, Inc. which specializes in radiant heat, plumbing, snowmelt, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and solar water-heating.

She and her husband believe that freedom can win with enough like-minded educated individuals on board. Her main focus is raising her children, serving in her church and community, and raising awareness of Constitutional principles through education.

This is an exciting time to be involved and being a delegate gives you a strong voice in the selection of our elected officials. Some of you have been delegates before, but many have never been a delegate or been to a convention before. Because of this, a friend has sent me a power point presentation designed to show new delegates the ins and outs of the State Republican convention. I would like to invite you to a Convention Orientation where I will be giving this presentation. What Happens At the Republican Conventions?

We were asked by several people to post this information:

What happens at the Republican Conventions?

Information comes from David James, Cache County Chair of the Republican Party

County Conventions occur one evening, once a year. (Usually 5:30pm at Mt. Logan Middle School for Cache County)

State Conventions occur one full day, once a year. (Usually from 8am-6pm) in Salt Lake area. Concessions are available there. An area is set up with informational and campaign booths and business is conducted in a seated hall.

Objective:

· Election year (such as this one)--to narrow the slate of candidates to one (for the general election) or two (for the primary election).

· Non-election year (organizing convention)--is to elect party leadership. The county convention operates for county party nominees and officials. The state convention operates for multi-county, regional and state wide nominees and officials.

Procedure:

· Prayer, pledge, welcome and adoption of agenda.

· From there the order is determined by the agenda proposed by leadership and accepted by the convention.

· In a nominating convention, the business of nominating candidates is generally conducted first so that balloting can proceed and counting can occur during the rest of the program. It also avoids the inconvenience of asking delegates to simply wait, if multiple ballots are necessary.

· Each candidate is given a set amount of time to speak. This is not a debate, but there are occasions when a moderator will ask a limited number of questions (generally 3-5) of each candidate. Again, the response times are fixed.

· At the end of speaking, ballots are cast and taken to a counting room. A candidate must get 70% of the vote at the county level for county candidates or 60% at the state level for state candidates. If there are multiple candidates, multiple rounds of balloting occurs (either separate ballots or prioritized ballot).

· The process is similar for the organizing convention. A majority of the vote is required to elect a party official and the outcome is determined at the convention.

· Generally, the other major business consists of reports/speeches from elected officials.

· Finally, the convention considers any resolutions or changes to the by-laws/constitution proposed under the party's rules. There are generally deadlines to be met and review processes to go through for these resolutions or changes. The process at convention is that an accepted resolution is placed before the body, rules of debate established for the convention are applied (time limits and number of speeches). Voting is by voice rather than by ballot. Generally, people find the most success with resolutions and changes at the organizing convention. Nominating conventions generally go very long with the primary business of the convention and other actions are often deferred to a later meeting or fail because people leave and there isn't a quorum to conduct further business (people do vote with their feet).

The Utah Independence Caucus has completed the preliminary endorsement process for the U.S. Senate race against Senator Bennett. The results are as follows:

Incumbent Senator Bennett and Democrat Sam Granato did not participate in the 80 question survey required to be eligible for endorsement. Merrill Cook did not enter the race in time to be considered for endorsement. Cherilyn Eagar was eliminated in the first round of voting leaving the following score for the final round of voting with the remaining candidates:

Tim Bridgewater 41.1%

Mike Lee - 58.9%

A 70% consensus is required to achieve endorsement from the Independence Caucus, therefore, the next I-caucus vote for endorsement in the Utah Senate Race will be the week after the Utah convention.

Until then, all I-caucus communications, videos, and efforts will be geared towards educating Utahn’s about why Bob Bennett needs to be defeated in 2010; and our official position is that any of the 3 vetted candidates (Tim Bridgewater, Cherilyn Eagar, and Mike Lee) would make excellent choices to replace Bob Bennett.

In concert with this announcement, the Cache Valley Independence would like to extend an invitation to the public for the launch of our “Bend it Like Bennett” video series which will be held at the North Logan Library on Thursday, March 11 at 7pm (465 E 2400 N) and will be accompanied by training on where your local caucus meetings are and how they are run.

Greetings to all Utah I-caucus members,

Our Senate Candidates Debate in January was a great event, but we now undertaking an even more important grassroots event as part of our united effort to send Bob Bennett into retirement....and we need your support!

Please reserve Saturday March 13th on your calendar for the “Constitutional PRE-Caucus Convention of 2010”and be ready to bring your friends and neighbors to one of 6 meeting locations across the state.

Purpose: We need to educate as many Utah Citizens as possible about the true voting record and anti-Constitutional bias of Senator Bob Bennett, and then motivate those newly educated citizens to attend their local caucus meetings and get elected as delegates or help other constitutionalists to get elected.

For every one of you who are politically active, there are dozens of people who still need to be awakened….and these meetings are designed to make that happen!

Format for the Pre-caucus Convention Meetings:

FIRST: We will have the premiere showing of our video series that will expose Bob Bennett’s record and expose the money trails between Bennett and the “Big Money” special interest groups who keep funding his perpetual re-election campaigns.

Because Bob Bennett has expressed many anti-constitutional statements like “The US Constitution was written for an agrarian society and is not well suited for our modern economy"…and because Bennett will twist the Constitution out of context in order to justify his votes; we have decided that the most appropriate title of our 4 video series will be: “Bend it Like Bennett”

SECOND: After we have introduced attendees to our “Bend it Like Bennett” series, we will then offer training on how they can host a home meeting in their own precincts to educate and motivate additional friends and neighbors to attend their local caucus meetings and support the election of true Constitutional Delegates….instead of the delegates that Bob Bennett would rather see get elected!

THIRD: We will then break off into legislative district groups and offer packets of information to attendees with personalized geographic information for their specific caucus meetings: Included will be the caucus locations, an overview of the process, how to make sure they are heard in their meetings, how to identify and support true constitutional delegates, and tips for getting elected as a delegate themselves.

Possible bonus: We have reached out to Utah Rising to coordinate this part of our meetings so we can also give attendees the excellent caucus information that they have put together. (No final word yet, but keep your fingers crossed.)

The 6 statewide geographic locations have been established as follows

SECOND, it is going to cost money to host these events and create the packets, so we are asking our members for a suggested donation of $10 towards this cause to help defray the costs so we don’t have to charge admission to the citizens of Utah who need to learn about their current Senator and how they can effectively replace him.

Chuck Bateman, a resident of Providence who has a master’s degree in Agricultural Education and experience in the education, agricultural, and financial industries, and who has been considering running for the Utah House of Representatives in district 5, will make a formal announcement on Friday, February 26 at 7pm at the Cobblestone Commercial Building in Providence (525 W 465 N. suite 120--downstairs--directions below).

Chuck believes that the federal government is blatantly encroaching upon the freedoms and liberties of the American people and the sovereign nature of the individual states, and will stand up for states’ rights as provided for in the Constitution of the United States as it was brought forth by the founding fathers. He also believes and that the state of Utah should limit its participation in, or totally opt out of, Federal programs such as national healthcare and the taxation of carbon emissions. He feels that Utah should axe excess spending and change the method by which the current state income tax is being calculated. He believes that we need to restore water rights based on original deeds, implement self-regulated quality-control requirements of water canals, and encourage water canal owners to self-insure against potential liabilities; that individual property rights can be protected by legislatively limiting the use of recent Eminent Domain court decisions through the imposition of heavy penalties against any municipality that misuses Eminent Domain rights. He believes that Utah should have access to minerals on Federal land within Utah’s borders, and that the 17^th Amendment should be overturned, or recalled, to restore the best system of Constitutional checks and balances (as established by the founding fathers) between the Federal government and the sovereignty of individual states.

Political revolution and paradigm shift:

The People are invited to participate in a local non-caucus meeting this Fri or Sat.

A Utah group “The People’s Right” (see website at www.utahlive.us ) hopes to lead the nation in a movement to raise the political power of people above that of political parties, special interest, media hype or money power through a direct process deliberately left open in the Utah State Constitution.

Farley Anderson, the Northern Utah coordinator, said, “We think the unseen influence of money is too prevalent. Dirty money is the bedfellow of dirty politics. Let’s do more than just talk about it. If people care enough to just say no, nothing can stop this.”

In the past two weeks, local area meetings have been held throughout the state to nominate and qualify candidates by The People. Representatives from these local groups are meeting in three different Regional Meetings this weekend. In southern Utah, the regional meeting will be held Friday Feb 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington City Library, 220 N 300 E, Washington, UT. The central region will meet on Saturday Feb 27 at 10:00 am at the Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore, UT, and the northern region’s meeting will be held Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Cache County Government Complex, 179 North Main Street, Logan, UT, Room 109.

Having people-nominated candidates is critical to bring Utah and America back to true principles, Anderson believes: “Parties and politicians will not cut the very thing—money influence—that enables their power. Real reform must come from us. Big, out-of-control political parties enable big, out-of-control government. We think the time is ripe for independent candidates to help us take back our independence.”

The group suffered an initial setback in their plan to use e-signatures to expedite the process and give a more direct access to more people. Steve Maxfield, originator of the e-signature process said, “Since our state attorney general decided to oppose this people empowering process, we will use paper. This didn’t slow us down much,” noting that “we think that the law is on our side.”

Thursday Night Constitution Classes

Greetings,

You have probably received information periodically about the class that is
studying W. Cleon Skousen's book the 5000 Year Leap that is held on Thursday
evenings in Providence. As we come to the conclusion of our second round in
that course of study, we have decided that now is the optimum time to begin
to focus on a study of the Constitution so that as we approach election
time, we can with real understanding be able to discuss the
constitutionality of issues and candidates stances so that we can cast
informed votes next November. If enough of us understand and can invite
others to join with us and learn what the proper role of government is, then
we can start to elect officials who will truly represent our interests and
pass legislation that will protect our liberties.

To that end we will begin to study former US Senatorial candidate Scott
Bradley's book, "To Preserve the Nation" on Thursday evening February 18th
at 7 PM in our Providence location. As you know Scott holds his class on
Wednesday nights at the Book Table, but we have continued to maintain our
class because so many that attend our Thursday class do so because they
can't attend on Wednesdays with Scott. We will be using all of Scott's
materials and DVD's to teach the class.

The best part is that Scott will attend that 1st meeting on February 18th
and be the keynote speaker and kick-off our class. We are very thankful
that he will be able to do this and provide an overview of the course of
study as only an author could do!!

Scott will have available all of his materials for purchase that evening.
He has his book in hard or soft bound, DVDs of his lecture series, CDs that
are the audio version of those DVDs and also MP3 audios of the DVDs which
are much less expensive than the CDs but contain the whole audio, for review
after class. Scott is providing a generous discount off the normal price to
help all of us get the books and materials. In fact if 6 or more people
will purchase a book and MP3 set, he will provide the set of DVDs for free
for our class to use. The discounted cost of the soft bound book and MP3s
set is $50. The book alone is $21.

I wanted to send this out early so that you can pass this along to as many
as you can and invite others to attend with you. Please do everything you
can to schedule this class into your life on February 18th. It will be well
worth your time to attend that night and every Thursday evening into the
future as we learn the Constitutional principles needed to guide our
country.

Seating is limited so if you have an extra folding chair or two please bring
them along with you.

This is such an exciting time to be alive! We may be frustrated with much of what is going on, but we have a golden opportunity tomake a real change for the better and help restore our Republic the way our Founding Fathers envisioned it! A 70% vote from the members is neccessary to gain endorsement, so all of our members need to find out as much as they can about all of the candidates prior to that vote.

This coming Friday, the Senate Debate that we are hosting at our "Constitutional Evening in 3D" is going to be a great opportunity for our members to see all 4 challengers go "head to head" and respond off the cuff to questions about their principles and understanding of the constitution and fiscal responsibility....and the candidates will not know ahead of time what those questions will be.

In addition, the THomas Paine portrayal that you will see is amazing. There is a reason that "Thomas" has had over 32 million hits on his youtube videos, and the live performances are electrifying.

With the economy down, the Cache Community Food Pantry is very pressed to help people affected by the downturn. They have stated the dire need to expand their facility. The Cache Community Food Pantry and its Director, Matt Whitaker, have joined forces with several local restaurants to put on its First Annual “Dine-Out to Defeat Hunger” Charity Benefit; the event will be held on Tuesday, February 24th and participating restaurants are donating up to 20% of their dinner-time receipts directly to the Food Pantry.

The cash donations will be used to buy specific food items that are needed to help feed the hungry of Cache Valley as well other items that are greatly needed by those who are clients of the Cache Community Food Pantry.

The Food Pantry is very excited about the response from the local restaurants and their owners who were more than willing to help out during this inaugural benefit being held on February 24th, 2009:

Bio for Mike Lee:

Mike has a great love of the Constitution, which he holds dear and wants desperately to preserve. The Constitution - including everything from the Due Process Clause to the Presentment Clause - was discussed around the Lee family's dinner table, almost in the same way many families talk about the weather, school, or the day's events. As a result, at a very young age Mike acquired a great love and admiration for the Constitution and for the principles found therein.

After graduating from Law School in 1997, he served as a law clerk to Judge Dee Benson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah. He then clerked for then-Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr., who was serving at that time on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit Court. From there he went into private practice, joining the Washington, D.C. office of Sidley & Austin, where he specialized in appellate and Supreme Court litigation. Several years later, Mike returned to Utah after being invited to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Salt Lake City, preparing briefs and arguing cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He served as Governor Huntsman's General Counsel from January 2005 until June 2006, when he returned to Washington to serve a one-year clerkship at the U.S. Supreme Court with Justice Alito.

Mike returned to Utah (and to private practice) in the summer of 2007, joining the Salt Lake office of the Washington, D.C.-based law firm of Howrey LLP. Mike has earned a reputation as a truly outstanding lawyer based on his sound judgment, unsurpassed writing and courtroom advocacy skills, and thorough understanding of the Constitution (and of federal law generally).

Mike has a strong desire to bring about fundamental change in the way the federal government operates. In particular, he supports efforts to:

1. Secure passage and ratification of a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to operate on a balanced budget

2.Secure passage and ratification of a constitutional amendment imposing term limits on U.S. Senators and Representatives

3.Rein in entitlement spending

4.Reform campaign finance laws, many of which restrict core political speech in violation of the First Amendment and - while cleverly presented to the public as ethics-reform laws - are principally designed to give incumbent Senators and Representatives an unfair advantage over challengers

5000 Year Leap and Constitution Classes

Dear Friend of the Constitution,

Just a reminder that we are continuing with our class on a weekly basis now. We think more people will form the habit of coming to the class if we don't have 2 weeks between them. Therefore, this Thursday evening, November 12th, and the next, November 19th, we will be meeting at 7 PM at the Providence location, the Cobblestone Commercial Plaza. ( See information below.)!! .

The following week is Thanksgiving and class will not be held. We will resume on December 3rd.

PLEASE COME AND HELP US CARRY THIS GREAT EDUCATIONAL WORK FORWARD as we study W. Cleon Skousen's book "The 5000 Year Leap". Our course will discuss the 28 principles that Mr. Skousen identified from the writings of the Founding Fathers that they knew would be needed to form a government that would be lasting for their descendants.

We are going to be discussing Principles 7 and 8 this week.

Calling All Conservatives: Important Meeting on November 10, 2009!

We are trying something different in Cache Valley. We have many different liberty minded groups who are all working towards the common goal of restoring freedom and limiting the encroachment of the federal government. In order to better facilitate this cooperation and achieve these common goals we have created what we call the Cache Tea Party Coalition. We have created a website at http://cacheteaparty.blogspot.com/ to keep people informed about our efforts and events.

One of the things we have already worked on is the Logan mayoral and city council races. Independence Caucus endorsed three candidates and many people from various groups have stepped up to help. We now have an opportunity continue this momentum into next years races, including the senate and county races. In order to be able to make a difference we need to work together and take as many county and state delegate positions as we can in the prominent political party. It is at the county and state conventions where a lot of things happen and decisions are made. It was at the state convention where Jason Chaffetz showed how much support he had in order to beat the incumbent, Chris Cannon.

In order to better facilitate this we are holding a training session about precinct meetings which will occur early next year. We will train the members of these organizations about how to become county and state delegates, as will similar liberty organizations throughout the state. The more we can influence these conventions the more say we will have on who ends up on the ballots and ultimately who wins these races.

Our meeting will consist of two parts. The first part will be training by the Campaign for Liberty about these caucuses. After that the Independence Caucus will discuss how to best choose a candidate that we can unify behind.

Two Rallys in Salt Lake City

This notification was just received on the Independence Caucus social networking site:

"There are two important rally's held inside the Utah State Capitol Building Rotunda. Saturday, November 12th [I think they mean the 14th], 10:00 AM - 12 noon is the Utah 912 & Tea Party Town Hall and on Wednesday, November 18th, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM with Joe the Plumber, the man who had the courage to ask a Presidential candidate why he was for "redistribution of the wealth" and opened up a national debate. Please attend and support both rallys. BTW, Nov 18 is also interim day for the legislature and our state representatives will be at the Capitol."

Help Evaluate Tim Bridgewater

I know we have been focusing a lot on local elections but there is still plenty of activity going on regarding the 2010 Senate race. Recently The Young Republican Federation invited Tim Bridgewater to Cache Valley for a public meeting at the Beehive Grill on September 15th, 2009. This link is a recording of that conversation and will help you understand more about what he stands for.

The Young Republican Federation will also be hosting Cherilyn Eagar, who is also running for Senate at the same location on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. We will record and post that conversation as well.

Currently James Williams and Mark Shurtleff have also filed as republicans to run against Bob Bennett. Sam Granato has filed as a democrat opponent. So many people have been awakening to the awful situation our country is in. More and more have been educating themselves and getting involved. As a result, people have joined up with various groups who are dedicated to helping our country remember the foundation it was built and made great upon and restore it to those foundational principles. This is a great thing, but not it is time for these groups to become unified. United we stand, divided we fall. We must now work together to accomplish common goals or else run amok as sheep scattered by wolves. We,in Cache Valley, have already successfully hosted TEA Parties, ran booths, and walked down parade routes together. Now it is time to do the real work--unite to help get people into office who will truly represent us. Join us today and help take back our country! We can and WILL make a difference!
